The Netherlands has launched an investigation into data collection by the DeepSeek chatbot

The Dutch Data Protection Agency (AP) has launched an investigation into the transfer of personal data to China, a process initiated, in particular, by the emergence of the DeepSeek chatbot.

This is reported by Ukrinform with reference to NOS.

“The Dutch Data Protection Agency (AP) warns and urges caution, as it has serious concerns about the privacy policy of DeepSeek, which originates from China, and how users' personal data is processed”, — said the head of the Dutch data protection agency, Aled Wolfsen.

The agency said it was launching a broader investigation into the transfer of personal data to China, partly because of concerns about DeepSeek.

“The transfer of personal data of European citizens to countries outside the EU is only permitted under strict, confidential conditions. There must be sufficient guarantees that people can retain control over their personal data and know what is happening with it. The question is whether DeepSeek and others meet these requirements”, — stated in the AP.

It is emphasized that DeepSeek users need to be very careful and attentive when using the new Chinese product.

Previously, experts noted that the information transmitted to the application is stored on servers in China and can be used by the government of this country.
