Apple's iPhone 15 became the best-selling smartphone in the world in the third quarter of 2024, and Samsung phones hold the palm of the championship as the most popular in the world. This is reported by the analytical company Сountegroіnt research.

iPhone 15 took first place in the list of the best-selling smartphones in the world. It's followed by the iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 15 Pro, according to Counterpoint Research's Global Handset Model Sales Tracker.

Samsung, however, retained the largest presence on the global list — among the 10 best-selling smartphones, 5 positions are occupied by models of this brand. Apple has 4 positions and Xiaomi — one.

This state of affairs remains unchanged from 2023, which indicates stable consumer preferences, analysts say. While Apple's share of the list dipped slightly, Samsung's presence grew, maintaining a combined market share of around 19%.

The growing popularity of high-end smartphones is gradually closing the gap in market share between the basic and Pro versions of the iPhone. It is noteworthy that for the first time in the third quarter, half of the total volume of iPhone sales fell on the Pro model. This shift helps Apple drive sales of more expensive devices. In addition, consumers are opting for the latest iPhones, especially in emerging markets, further contributing to Apple's strong sales. This trend is supported by attractive financing schemes and trade-in offers, making the latest iPhones more affordable.

Samsung's Galaxy S24 retained its place in the top ten in Q3 2024 for the third quarter in a row. In addition, for the first time in the third quarter since 2018, a variant of the Galaxy S series entered the top ten. Sales of the Galaxy S24 series were mainly driven by a strong marketing focus on GenAI capabilities.

Samsung's Galaxy A series took four places in the top 10 list thanks to its wider presence in various regions and targeting larger customer segments in the initial and average price ranges. Samsung has effectively positioned these devices with competitive pricing and longer software support. However, in the top 10 list, the high-end Galaxy A series phones were displaced by the Galaxy S series and mid-range A series phones.

Xiaomi's Redmi 13C, which replaced last year's Redmi 12C, retained its place on the list for the second quarter in a row due to availability and presence in emerging markets. The smartphone stands out in its price segment, offering the best features.

Apple and Samsung are further strengthening their premium positions with the help of Apple Intelligence and Galaxy AI, which will help them continue to dominate these ratings, according to analysts. Both brands use GenAI as a differentiating factor in the premium segment.
