The Defense Resources Agency under the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania has signed contracts with manufacturers for the purchase of various unmanned systems for a total amount of about 36 million euros.
This is reported on the website of the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania.
As noted, the agency will purchase small-class reconnaissance drones from the Latvian company Edge Autonomy and the Estonian manufacturer Threod Systems, and will purchase micro-class drones (quadrocopters) from the Lithuanian company Deftools.
Most of the UAVs are expected to be delivered this fall, with the rest in early 2025.
Procurements are underway urgently to strengthen the potential of unmanned aerial vehicles and integrate them into the Armed Forces of Lithuania as soon as possible.
«UAV acquisition and integration is one of the most important priorities to have modern armed forces, therefore the development of this potential, which has been going on for more than 15 years, is gaining momentum,” the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania states.
In the department added that in general, it is planned to allocate about 200 million euros for the purchase of all types of unmanned systems by 2030. It is planned to allocate an average of 30 million euros each year.
