Mayor of Konstantinovka Oleg Azarov and the head of a local utility company are suspected of embezzling funds allocated for the defense of the city.

“In early April 2022, the mayor of the city of Konstantinovka, close to the areas of active hostilities, instead of performing the tasks of the territorial defense of the city, took possession of defense funds,” the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine said in a statement.

As the investigation established, officials embezzled the city council’s budget funds in the amount of more than UAH 363,000. The council allocated funds for the construction and installation of protective facilities in the city, which was not done.

The police report does not indicate the name of the official, but it is about Oleg Azarov.

Oleg Azarov heads Konstantinovka from 2020. He was born in July 1976 in Togliatti, USSR. Has Ukrainian citizenship. Married. Has three sons. Graduated from the Konstantinovsky Industrial College with a degree in Mechanic of the Glass Industry; "Slavic Business Institute". He worked as a court bailiff, inspector at the Konstantinovskaya State Tax Inspectorate, since 2009 he began to engage in advocacy. Specialization – business and tax disputes. Before the elections in 2020, for the last five years he worked only as a lawyer with business. He is a member of the Opposition Platform For Life! During the mayoral elections in Konstantinovka in 2020, the media repeatedly noted that Oleg Azarov has Russian citizenship.
