Kim Jong-un has replaced the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and called for preparations for a possible war, increased weapons production and expanded military exercises. Reuters reports on this.
Kim made these statements at a meeting of the Central Military Commission, which discussed plans for countermeasures to deter North Korea's enemies, who were not named, the report said.
The country's top general, Chief of the General Staff Park Su-il was “fired”. He held this post for about seven months.
Park was replaced by General Ri Yong-gil, who previously served as the country's defense minister .
Ree also previously served as Army Chief of Staff. When he was replaced in 2016, his dismissal and subsequent absence from official events sparked rumors in South Korea that he had been executed. He reappeared a few months later, when he was appointed to another managerial position.
