The new airport will create about 150,000 jobs. Airlines that will operate flights from the future largest airport in the world have not yet been announced.
In 2030, it is planned to open the international airport named after King Salman in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia). The resort, with six giant runways, is valued at £23 billion. Metro writes about it.
On a site with an area of more than 57 square kilometers, as many as 12 square kilometers are set aside for retail outlets so that people can make purchases while waiting to board.
The airport is being designed by Foster + Partners, which also worked on the Midtown bus terminal in New York (USA) and the new Marseille airport (France). It will combine the existing terminals of King Khalid International Airport, which has been operating since 1983.
Although the airlines that will operate flights from the future largest airport have not yet been announced, the construction should create about 150,000 jobs . It is expected to serve 120 million passengers and by 2050 this number is likely to increase to 185 million. It is part of the program for the development of tourism in Riyadh.
“The airport project is in line with Saudi Arabia's vision of transforming Riyadh into one of the ten largest economies in the world and supporting the growth of Riyadh's population to 15-20 million people by 2030”, — the Saudi News Agency said in a statement.
The publication notes that the world's largest airport is currently King Fahd International Airport, also known as Dammam Airport, in Saudi Arabia. Opened to commercial traffic in 1999, it previously served as a US airbase during the Persian Gulf War and now serves 43 destinations.
