The iPhone 17 smartphone will be equipped with an Apple-designed chip with support for Wi-Fi 7

At least one of the iPhone 17 models coming next year will feature its own Wi-Fi 7 chip, according to Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

All current iPhone models feature a combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip supplied by Broadcom, but Kuo expects Apple to equip “almost all” of its products with its own Wi-Fi chip “within about three years”. The move will help the company reduce component costs and further enhance hardware and software integration, the analyst said.

All four iPhone 16 models already support Wi-Fi 7 with a Broadcom chip, but with some limited features. Kuo said Apple's own Wi-Fi chip will support “the latest Wi-Fi 7 specification,” but did not provide any further details. The chip will be manufactured using TSMC's 7nm process, known as N7, the analyst added.

Wi-Fi 7 allows data to be transmitted in the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands simultaneously with a supported router, providing faster Wi-Fi speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connections. Wi-Fi 7 can deliver peak speeds of over 40Gbps, which is 4 times faster than Wi-Fi 6E.
