The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has dismissed harsh criticism from Ukraine and several other countries that accused it of promoting war after the body said Russians could potentially be given the opportunity to compete in the Olympics. 2024 Games in Paris, reports Reuters.
'The IOC strongly rejects this and other defamatory statements. They cannot serve as a basis for any constructive discussion”, – the statement of the International Olympic Committee says.
BAGNET recalls that the International Olympic Committee called for the admission of representatives of Russia and Belarus to compete in a neutral status, provided that they were not seen actively supporting the war in Ukraine.
In addition, IOC President Thomas Bach said that he wants athletes from Russia and Belarus to be able to take part in Games in Paris, even if the Russian war against Ukraine continues.
French President Emmanuel Macron also believes that Russians and Belarusians will take part in the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
Foreign Minister Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba criticized the position of the International Olympic Committee, which wants to allow Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete. "The IOC is ready to trample the graves of thousands of innocent people who were killed and are being killed by the Russians" quot;, – he wrote.
