New name, new logo, new motto: the Montreal Impact soccer team unveiled its new identity on Thursday.
Founded in 1992, member of Major League Soccer (MLS) since 2012, the Montreal Impact is getting a makeover on the eve of its thirtieth anniversary.
From now on, it is under the name of Club de foot Montreal, or CF Montreal that fans will have to talk about their favorite team.
On the visual side, the place given to the fleur-de-lys, present on the logo since 2002, has been greatly reduced. A snowflake formed by four M’s and eight arrows now represents the Montreal team, a change announced in a way since the campaign to promote this new identity has been very focused on winter and snow since the beginning of the year. .
Although subtle, the color blue remains present in the new logo, blue being the color of the team since its founding.
The new name and logo already appear on the Club website.
As for the motto, “All to win” becomes “Straight ahead”.
The announcement will be made shortly by Club President Kevin Gilmore and team owner Joey Saputo in a virtual presentation. Head coach Thierry Henry will also be present for this unveiling.
Remember a petition opposing the name change was launched a month ago, indicating that “the fact of renaming our club means for many, to deny our history and our unique identity in the world”. The petition had received 2,171 signatures at the time of this article’s publication.
More details to come.
