The head of the Krivoy Rog military administration Oleksandr Vilkul: we are ready for any scenario
Ukrainian experts note the transfer of Russian troops to the south, but do not confirm the possibility of preparing for an attack on the Dnipropetrovsk region
Kyiv – Krivoy Rog is ready for a possible offensive by Russian invaders. A defense in depth was built in front of the city, on which more than a hundred pieces of equipment worked for five months. The head of the military administration of Krivoy Rog (Dnepropetrovsk region) Oleksandr Vilkul stated this on air on Channel 11, news.liga.net reports on August 4.
According to him, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the battles with the Russians were on the outskirts of Krivoy Rog, literally hundreds of meters from the city, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to push the enemy deep into the Kherson region, about 50 km from the city.
“Indeed, there is a certain accumulation of equipment and manpower of the enemy, but our soldiers are well-armed and very well motivated, we are ready for any scenario,” said Alexander Vilkul.
On August 3, it was noted that “the situation in the operational zone in the South Bug direction is tense and dynamic in development.”
“The enemy continues to conduct combat operations along the occupied line of defense. It is creating a strike force in the Kryvyi Rih direction in order to prevent a breakthrough of our troops, plans counter-offensive actions to reach the administrative border of the Kherson region,” the South operational command Facebook page says.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on July 31 The Telegram channel expressed gratitude to the residents of the southern regions of Ukraine.
“Strategically, Russia has no chance of winning this war. And we need to hold on so that at the tactical levels the terrorist state feels its loss. We need to hold on – in the south, in the east and everywhere. Stay on the defensive, in diplomacy, in politics. Preserve our unity – and not only before victory, but also after it, in order to qualitatively restore everything destroyed by the occupiers,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
He noted the inflexibility of every Nikolaev citizen in protecting the city and region.
“Also, thanks to Nikopol, Kharkov, Krivoy Rog and the whole Dnepropetrovsk region, strong people of Zaporozhye and the region, all Ukrainians of the Kherson region, each and every one who defends the approaches to Odessa and the region … Thank you for your courage!” – said the President of Ukraine.
Russia has strengthened the grouping in the southern direction
The Ukrainian service of Radio Liberty quotes the words of the head of the Ukrainian Center for Security and Cooperation, Sergei Kuzan, that Russian troops have recently been “reinforcing their groups in the southern direction.”
“The command of the Russian army decided to strengthening the contracting group. That is, this is the Zaporozhye direction, and the Krivoy Rog direction, and the Nikolaev direction. Both in Zaporozhye and in the Kherson region there is a massive transfer of Russian troops. It is determined by the active actions of our Armed Forces,” Sergei Kuzan noted in an article published on the Radio Liberty website on August 5.
The expert also stressed that the priorities of the Russians are gradually shifting from the Donetsk region to the Kherson and Zaporozhye directions.
Russia has no resources for an offensive
Director of the Center for Foreign Policy research “OPAD” named after Alexander Nikonorov Sergey Parkhomenko notes that information about a possible attack on Krivoy Rog is doubtful, requires verification, and has no confirmation.
“We have heard a lot about the fact that Russia will again attack Kharkov. I was in the defense of Kharkov this summer, and I can say that Russia does not have the resources for these actions. Although the topic of the “offensive” on Kharkov has been discussed for more than a month: that the enemy is regrouping, he is preparing an offensive. Now there is Krivoy Rog. Definitely, this is all disinformation,” Sergey Parkhomenko tells the correspondent of the Voice of America Russian Service.
He believes that such unverified information is “thrown” by Russia in order to “disperse panic among residents of cities, about which these messages say.”
“Through unscrupulous journalists, the press, the Russians are launching this disinformation that they will go to Kharkov, Kyiv or Krivoy Rog. In addition to “dispersing” the panic among the civilian population, the goal is also to ensure that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are engaged in the transfer of troops to the designated direction and weaken other directions,” Serhiy Parkhomenko notes.
Enemy disinformation or propaganda
Political scientist Valentin Bushansky believes that, despite the obvious threats coming from Russia, such statements about the offensive and operations in the direction of Krivoy Rog and further to the regional center – the Dnieper, are enemy disinformation or propaganda.
“Before these statements, there were very improvident reports from the Ukrainian authorities that Ukraine could counterattack in the south. Accordingly, Russia moved there and concentrated troops in the southern direction in order to stop the Ukrainian counteroffensive. Given the concentrated troops, the Russians can now consider conducting an offensive operation towards Krivoy Rog and the Dnieper and a new offensive on Mykolaiv,” Valentin Bushansky tells the Voice of America Russian Service correspondent.
However, he believes that the Ukrainian authorities should consider such threats very seriously, and Ukrainian society should be mobilized to the maximum to counter Russian aggression.
there are attacks on the Kharkov region. We remember that Russia's plans were to occupy the Donetsk and Luhansk regions. Today they stopped near Bakhmut. Heavy fighting is going on there,” emphasizes Valentin Bushansky.
He believes that, despite the seriousness of the situation, Ukraine will not allow threats to Dnipro, the key city of the country, and Krivoy Rog, the heart of Ukrainian metallurgy.
