The G7 countries have accused the Kremlin of covert efforts to undermine elected governments around the world through disinformation campaigns. In particular, through propaganda.
This is reported by RBC-Ukraine with reference to the G7 statement.
The statement of the G7 Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) refers to the covert activities of the Russian state media RT and the Social Design Agency (SDA). And that the Kremlin funds them for disinformation and influence campaigns.
“RT and SDA employ deception tactics aimed at exploiting social and political issues to polarize and weaken societies, undermine and delegitimize elected governments, and advance the Kremlin's malign interests,” the G7 said.
These actions by Russian entities include diverting attention from war crimes in Ukraine and humanitarian crises caused by the aggressive war.
“G7 RRM members will continue to shine a light on these malign activities, which may include, but are not limited to, hostile cyber actions, psychological and information operations, and “secret influence,” the G7 added.
