The French prosecutor's office is investigating the case of Telegram founder Pavel Durov under 12 articles

The French prosecutor's office is investigating the case of Pavel Durov, founder and CEO of the Telegram company, on 12 charges, including complicity in drug trafficking and possession of child pornography.

This is stated in the official press release of the French prosecutor's office.

The agency noted that Durov was detained on the evening of August 24 at Le Bourget airport as part of a criminal investigation that was launched on July 8 by the cybercrime department.

< strong>Unidentified persons are being investigated for the following offenses:

  • Participation in the administration of an online platform to enable illegal transactions.
  • Refusal to provide information upon requests by authorized bodies. .
  • Complicity in the storage of images of minors of a pornographic nature.
  • Complicity in the distribution of images of minors of a pornographic nature by an organized group.
  • Complicity in the distribution of drugs.
  • < li>Complicity in the distribution of hacker software.

  • Complicity in fraud committed by an organized group.
  • Creation of an organized group for the purpose of committing crimes punishable by imprisonment for at least five years.< /li>
  • Concealing the crimes of an organized group.
  • Providing cryptographic services aimed at ensuring confidentiality without mandatory declaration.
  • Illegal provision of cryptographic means beyond what is necessary to ensure confidentiality .
  • Illegal import of cryptography tools beyond what is necessary to ensure confidentiality.

Now Durov is being interrogated by investigators, and the term of his detention was extended by the judge to 96 hours, i.e. to 28 August.

According to the article on the administration of an online platform on which the illegal circulation of prohibited products, content or services is allowed, Durov faces a sanction – from 5 to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine from 150,000 to 500 thousand euros.
