The French minister made a militant statement

On March 26, during a press conference, French Defense Minister Sebastien Lecornu said he “does not rule out” requisitioning “personnel, stocks or production tools” to boost defense production, writes Le Figaro.

Lecornu said on Tuesday he does not rule out requisitioning “personnel, stores or production facilities” , or the introduction of obligations for certain enterprises to give priority to military needs.

The Minister noted that the law on military planning for 2024-2030, adopted in 2023, provides grounds for such radical steps by the state in conditions of obvious or implied threats to the country. Potential requisition can be carried out on the basis of a decision of the Council of Ministers.

Recall that the European Commission recently announced the allocation of 500 million to European companies to increase ammunition production capacity under a scheme that will increase the supply of shells to Ukraine and replenish the stocks of EU countries.

In January, the relevant European Commissioner said that the European defense industry will be able to produce at least 1.3 million shells by the end of 2024.
