The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) this Friday rejected Cardiff's appeal in relation to the transfer of the deceased footballer Emiliano Sala from Nantes, to whom he must pay six million euros corresponding to the first installment of the transfer, which was signed for a total of 17 million.

The Lausanne court announced its decision in a statement and stressed that it considers that the player's transfer was “completed”, despite the fact that shortly after the Argentine striker died in a plane crash in the English Channel, when I was flying from Nantes to Cardiff.

“After taking into consideration all the evidence collected and all the arguments put on the table by both clubs, the CAS panel decided that the transfer of the player from FC Nantes to Cardiff City FC was completed”, the court note states.

“Given that the conditions established in the transfer agreement were fulfilled before the death of the player, FC Nantes' claim for the first installment of the transfer payment, in the amount of 6 million euros, was supported,” he adds.

The sports court emphasizes that its decision concerns only that first term of the economic agreement between both clubs.
