In Istanbul, it will be checked for compliance with the terms of the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain before leaving for Lebanon

Turkey said that the first shipment of Ukrainian grain since the beginning of the Russian invasion arrived at its shores.

The Sierra Leone-flagged Razoni, with 26,000 tons of corn on board, is on its way from Odessa to Lebanon.

But its first stop is Istanbul , where Special Joint Coordination Center staff will inspect the vessel to ensure it is not carrying weapons or other non-food items. This is provided for by the agreement on the resumption of exports of Ukrainian grain in the context of the global food crisis, reached at the end of July.

Representatives of Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and the UN, the four parties involved in the conclusion of the agreement, work at the center.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said on Monday that Razoni is “loaded with two scarce commodities – corn and hope.”

“Hope for the millions of people around the world who depend on the smooth operation of Ukraine’s ports to feed their families,” he added.
