The American architectural studio Oiio has developed a project of a unique skyscraper that can change the appearance of New York. It will also be the first curved skyscraper in history and the longest building in the world.
The project called “The Big Bend” will have a U-shaped structure. Its length will be 4,000 feet, i.e. 1,219 meters, reports 24 Kanal, referring to Metro.
The longest curved skyscraper in the world
In New York, developers traditionally buy up “air rights,” the vertical space above neighboring buildings, to build taller skyscrapers. However, The Big Bend will have a structure that bends and then bends back down, creating a kind of arch. This will allow it to circumvent New York City's strict high-rise planning laws.
If the project is implemented, The Big Bend will be 1,000 feet taller than the Burj Khalifa, and will also exceed One World Trade Center, while remaining relatively “compact” for Manhattan.

Elevators will even be in arched areas
Project designer Ioannis Oikonomou noted that the goal of the project is to “literally stand out” from traditional skyscrapers. It should be “designed to be seen.” The project involves an innovative system of elevators that can travel horizontally even in the arched areas of the building.
There are many different ways to make a building stand out, but to do so, it has to literally stand out. If we can bend our structure without violating New York City's zoning regulations, we could create one of the most prestigious buildings in Manhattan,

However, local residents are a little concerned that The Big Bend could “cast a shadow” over Central Park, their favorite place to relax.
