The filming of the film Moonfall interrupted

COVID-19 spread fear on the Hollywood film set Moonfall, shot in Montreal, after an actor received a false positive test. Production was suspended last Friday as a precaution.

According to our information, the actor in question received this false positive diagnosis of COVID-19 at the end of last week. In order not to take any risks, the production decided on Friday to stop shooting the film temporarily.

The actor has undergone several new tests over the past few days and the results have all come out negative. Production is now awaiting the green light from the CNESST to be able to resume operations as soon as possible.

This interruption comes at a very bad time since there are only four days of filming to complete. Moonfall, a science fiction film with a budget of over $ 150 million, has been filming in Montreal and its surroundings since October 21. The feature film directed by Roland Emmerich stars several Hollywood stars, including Halle Berry, Patrick Wilson and Donald Sutherland.

Sanitary protocol

Even if film crews must follow a strict health protocol, this is not the first time that COVID-19 has created panic in an American production in Quebec. The past autumn, the newspaper The Gazette had reported that the filming schedule for the new version of the cult comedy Mom I missed the plane had been upset because an actress in the film had received a false positive test.

As for Quebec productions, the shootings of bye and the series District 31 were on hold for a few days last December due to COVID-19 cases.

Moonfall is the fifth feature film that filmmaker Roland Emmerich has shot in Montreal, after The day after (in 2004), White House in Peril (2013), Stonewall (2015) and Midway (2018). The film will be centered around the adventures of a group of astronauts who must save the Earth after the Moon is taken out of its orbit.

Two other American productions are currently filming in Montreal, namely the TV series The Republic of Sarah and The Bold Type.
