The European Commission has approved the funding of five cross-border projects to support more efficient defence procurement among EU members

The European Commission has approved the financing of five cross-border projects to support more coordinated and effective defense procurement among EU member states. This is reported by the press service of the European Commission, the correspondent of FREEDOM in Europe informs.

Implemented within the framework of the European Instrument for Strengthening the Defense Industry through Joint Procurement (EDIRPA), each of the five selected projects will receive 60 million euros, making the total amount of funding in the amount of 300 million euros.

“P’ The five selected projects represent a total cost of procurement that exceeds 11 billion euros and illustrates the high efficiency of EU funding. EDIRPA's EUR 300 million investment stimulated more than 36 times the commitment, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in attracting significant defense investment across the EU, — the message says.

The five selected EDIRPA projects will now enter the grant agreement preparation phase, which involves detailed coordination between the Commission and the consortia of Member State authorities.

The selected EDIRPA projects cover 20 Member States, some of which will be participating in joint defence procurement projects for the first time. On average, six Member States are involved in each project — twice the minimum legal requirement of three Member States, demonstrating interest in a more unified European approach to defence procurement.

Most of the selected projects also involve the procurement of defence products destined for Ukraine, including air and missile defence systems and ammunition.

“The five selected projects are in the areas of air and missile defence, modern armour and ammunition. So these are the three areas where we have five selected projects”, — said Johanna Bernsel, Commissioner for Internal Market, Defence Industry and Space, European Commission.
