We should have a common air defense shield for the whole of Europe, as proposed by Mitsotakis and Tusk, she said at a debate between the candidates for the next European Commission president on Thursday.
As Bloomberg reported, the leaders of Greece and Poland asked European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to lead efforts to create a joint air defense shield that would be financed by the bloc.
The EU needs a new “flagship program” such as a European air defense shield, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk wrote in a letter, Bloomberg noted.
The two leaders are also said to be asking to discuss it issue at the next EU summit at the end of June.
