The EU warned against escalation around Taiwan due to China's military drills

The European Union emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the Taiwan Strait region in the context of China's naval exercises, which began today.

The EU also called on the parties to prevent the escalation of tensions. This is stated in the statement of the spokesperson of the EU, reports Ukrinform.

«Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait are of strategic importance for regional and for global security and prosperity. The EU is directly interested in preserving the status quo in Taiwan Strait. We oppose any unilateral actions aimed at changing this status quo by force or hostile action,” the spokesman emphasized. According to him, all parties should exercise restraint and avoid any actions that which may lead to an escalation of tensions around the Taiwan Strait. He also called for solving all issues through dialogue.
