The engineer has created a program that limits PC power depending on electricity price

< IMG SRC = "/Uploads/Blogs/3C/B2/IB-1inr9R9R_CEF7B271.jpg" Alt = "engineer created a program that limits PC power depending on electricity price"/> ~ ~ < P > Robotics and machine training engineer developed a Wattwise command line tool that tracks power consumption through a reasonable socket and regulates the system performance depending on electricity tariffs.

~ ~ ~ < p >The project appeared when a developer named Navin collected a workstation on two Epyc processors and planned to install four video cards. It is an energy consumption, so it decided to track consumption with the Kasa Smart Plug socket. However, standard sockets were uncomfortable and did not allow automated power control, so it created your own solution.

< P > WattWise interface works directly in the terminal and shows real -time consumed power, as well as the history of graphic consumption. The main thing is that the utility is able to automatically reduce the productivity of the processor and video card depending on the load and prices for electricity.

< P > Since the Navina energy supplier uses Time-of-OSE (tou) tariffs, electricity is more expensive at peak hours. Its workstation can consume up to 1400 watts, but reducing the frequency of the processor from 3.7 GHz to 1.5 GHz reduces consumption by about 225 watts. GPU-Trottling in the current version is not implemented, but in a system with four graphics cards it could give even more savings.

< p > Optimization mechanism is based on a PI regulator (proportional-integral), which analyzes three parameters: current load, energy consumption and time of day (taking into account tariffs). Based on this data WattWise dynamically adjusts the system parameters.

< P > While the program supports only one KASA socket, but plans to add support to other models, integration with additional power management tools and new features. ~ ~ < P > The Wattwise Outgoing Code is posted on & nbsp; github. Only the monitoring panel is now available and the module regulating clock frequencies is still being finalized.
