The enemy activated the Orion UAV: what is the problem with shooting down these drones

There is an increase in the use of Orion reconnaissance-strike UAVs. At the same time, the scale of the problem is growing similarly to the use of reconnaissance UAVs at one time, such as Orlan-10, ZALA, etc., which have now invaded the border and near-rear zone in Ukraine.

The problem of Orion drones

The Orion UAV was very actively used by the Russian occupying forces at the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. And so brazenly that they flew deep into unoccupied territory. This led to a rapid increase in losses among these drones and a refusal to use them for a long time.

The other day, due to technical problems, the “Orion” UAV fell into a timber warehouse in the Taganrog region. But that's not what we're talking about.

The Russian occupying forces are currently using the Orion UAV for round-the-clock reconnaissance at a safe distance from the Ukrainian air defense zone or in areas where it is absent.

For example, in the Kursk region, Orion UAVs constantly strike positions and equipment of the Defense Forces of Ukraine. Over the Black Sea, the “Orion” UAV barrages around the clock and conducts reconnaissance in the direction of Mykolaiv and Odesa regions.

Now we have found a way to fight reconnaissance UAVs of the type “Orlan-10”, ZALA, etc. without the use of air defense and even light aviation . FPV drone interception has shown its effectiveness and viability.

In the case of the Orion UAV, the main problem is the delivery of the FPV interceptor drone to the location where the target is hovering.

In the case of Southern Ukraine, the Orion UAV is circling for 150 – 180 kilometers from the coast, so the question arises of overcoming this distance with an FPV drone, for which a carrier with the appropriate characteristics is needed. In the Kursk region, the height where the Orion UAV operates will be a problem, – up to 7 kilometers.

In any case, this problem is being solved, but if you start solving it too late, then it will be too late.
