On Saturday, August 12, three levels of the Eiffel Tower, as well as the space near it, were evacuated due to a detected threat of an explosion, the police reported.
Demining is carried out at the scene. For security reasons, the monument is closed to visitors.
The evacuation began around noon and was carried out as a preventive measure. According to information from a police source, this procedure is standard for such situations, but at the same time it is quite rare.
At this time it is not known who sent the message about the possible threat of an explosion.
BAGNET notes that the Eiffel Tower is the most visited paid tourist attraction in the world and welcomes approximately 7 million guests annually. Approximately 75% of them are foreign tourists.
