A raccoon hound (coonhound) named Lou got into the Guinness Book of Records as a dog with the longest ears in the world. This was reported in Instagram Book of Records.
Lou lived in a dog shelter in the US state of Ohio until she was taken home by Paige Olsen, a veterinarian from Milwaukee, Oregon. The length of her pet's ears was measured by the owner during the isolation due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It turned out that Lou's ears are 34 cm long. Veterinarian Paige read that the long ears of raccoon hounds are necessary for the best performance of their unique nose and scent. During the pursuit of prey, the dog's ears are dragged along the ground and “activate” old scents. This ear-nose connection allows the Coonhound to walk on very old, “cold” roads. tracks that other dogs can't smell.
