German director Wolfgang Petersen has died at the age of 81. It is reported by Variety with reference to his production company.

Petersen passed away on August 12 at his home in Brentwood (Los Angeles). The cause of death was pancreatic cancer.

Wolfgang Petersen started his career in Germany. After the release of 1981, his thriller "Boat" (Das Boot), who received six Oscar nominations, the director was invited to work in Hollywood.

The films "The Neverending Story" (1984), "My Enemy" (1985), "Epidemic" (1995), "Perfect Storm" (2000), "Troy" (2004) and "Poseidon" (2006) .
