The court punished a priest of the UOC (MP) for praising Putin online: what term did he receive?

A priest of the Vinnytsia eparchy of the UOC (MP), Archpriest Yevhen Koshelnyk, was sentenced to five years in prison. He spread Russian propaganda and anti-Ukrainian statements online.

This was reported by the press service of the Kalynivskyi District Court on Tuesday, December 17. It is noted that he was charged with the second and third parts of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (justification or denial of Russian armed aggression).

The court decided to sentence the priest to five years of imprisonment without confiscation of property. He was also changed from night house arrest to detention.

“Take the accused into custody in the courtroom immediately, and keep him in custody in the pre-trial detention center of the State Institution “Vinnytsia Penitentiary Institution (No. 1)”, until the sentence enters into legal force, after which it is executed”, — the message says.

As is known, on August 21, 2024, Koshelnyk was served with a suspicion. According to the SBU, he praised the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, in communication with parishioners, and also spread Russian propaganda narratives on his telegram channel.
