The Quebec Court of Appeal on Monday rejected the appeal of Jérémy Gabriel's mother, Sylvie Gabriel, who sued comedian Mike Ward for defamation.

A first judgment declared the request inadmissible on the grounds that the defamation action is time-barred.

The statute of limitations is the period beyond which it is no longer possible to prosecute an individual. This period is generally three years.

Sylvie Gabriel appealed the decision of Judge Manon Gaudreault rendered on May 30, 2022.

She claimed $84,600 in compensation from the comedian, citing the destructive effect of the jokes he made about her family between 2010 and 2013.
