One of the most resounding results seen at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar to date was Costa Rica's 7-0 defeat by the Spanish team. The Colombian coach, Luis Fernando Suárez, was one of the great ones pointed out after the debacle at the Al Thumama stadium in the city of Doha. Former player Lukas Podolski, who is remembered for having been champion with Germany in 2014, referred to the result of this match and spoke about the national coach.

The Costa Rican debut was not as many imagined , the hard defeat against the Spanish put Suárez's team in an uncomfortable situation in the group E position table, where they also share with the Germany and Japan teams. Those of Luis Enriquethey prevailed with goals from Dani Olmo, Marco Asensio, Ferrán Torres, Gavi, Carlos Soler and Álvaro Morata.

In an interview with Diario AS, < b>Podolski stated that he did not get to see the game, however, he stressed that, “Only the result gives you a clue of its quality. You can't go to the World Cup and concede seven goals. But Germany is not Costa Rica. It is also true that it is not easy to score seven goals in a World Cup match. I am not going to discover Spain now, we already know how Spain plays and who it is. It will be interesting because we already know that the pressure is on the German side.”

The coach Luis Fernando Suárez, after the win against Spain. highlighted at a press conference that,“You have to improve on everything. We are aware that there is no time to stay in the past, there is more quality of work than quantity now. We had already anticipated something about how the three teams play, the rivals (…) since the match ended, I told you that immediately after leaving the press conference, what I did was go talk to the players . We talked about that situation, with height, after a prudent time of silence”,

The Colombian coach added that, “the best thing we had was height, much respect in the dressing room itself, from there we began to be aware of many things, of what we had done wrong. We had to get ahead, to do things different from what was done against Spain. That is what we want”,
