Independiente Medellín was eliminated from the League grand final last Thursday. Despite beating La Equidad 1-5 in Bogotá, they had to wait for Tolima not to beat Envigado, which did not happen.
This elimination was added to the premature exit of DIM in the Copa Sudamericana, in which they could not get past the group stage. It had as rivals Internacional de Porto Alegre, 9 de Octubre and Guaireña.
For this reason, Medellín announced on Friday that, by mutual agreement, they had reached an agreement for the dismissal of coach Julio Avelino Comesaña.

Julio Comesaña spoke about his departure from Medellín
However, the Colombian-Uruguayan gave a different version of the circumstances that led to his departure from Medellín.
“I was summoned by Mr. Raúl Giraldo to a meeting at the offices. It was a very short conversation, they told me that the institution had decided to change the coaching staff,” Comesaña told Win Sports.
“The issue of mutual agreement is that there is someone who proposes something and the other person accepts it. I replied that there was no problem and that I accepted the decision,” added Comesaña.

Medellín did not meet the objectives of the season
It should be remembered that Comesaña declared in his moment that he was going to give priority to the League over the South American. He was unable to comply. “I think they had the expectation of reaching the final or being champions and if they didn't, they would change the coaching staff,” concluded the DT.
