Learn about all the holidays that await Christians according to the church calendar (Orthodox or Greek Catholic) in September 2024.
< p>The church calendar is a system that combines the annual cycle of transitional holidays (linked to Easter) and the cycle of non-transitional holidays and weekdays. The whole life of illiterate peasants was focused on the liturgical calendar. All the days that are important to them were not associated with the month and number, but with one or another saint. For example, beehives were exhibited in apiaries on Zosyma. Yes, people's lives were governed by the church calendar. Fasting is also of great importance for believers. Regardless of religion, the calendar is important for observing fasts, both Great and one-day fasts, as well as church holidays.
Please note that Ukraine switched to the New Julian calendar. So the dates of the usual holidays were shifted to 2024. Therefore, Orthodox and Greek Catholic believers will celebrate them at the same time.
The church calendar will tell Orthodox believers about important holidays:

September 14 – Exaltation of the Honorable and Life-giving Cross of the Lord;
September 15 – the holy great martyr Nikita;
September 16 – the holy great martyr Euphemia;
September 17 – the holy martyr Sophia and her daughters: Faith, Hope and Love;
September 18 – the holy Venerable Eumenius, bishop of Hortyn;
September 19 – the holy martyrs Trochymus, Savvatius, Dorymedon;
September 20 – the holy great martyr Eustratius and others; the holy martyrs Michael and Theodore;
September 21 – the holy apostle Kondrat;
September 22 – St. Phokas the Holy Martyr; the holy prophet Jonah;
September 23 – Conception of Saint John the Baptist;
September 24 – the holy first martyr and co-apostle Thekla;
September 25< /strong> – Saint Reverend Euphrosyne;
September 26 – Saint Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian;
September 27 – Saint Martyrs Kalistratus and his wife; Saint Reverend Nila Grotafer;
