Canadian patrol ship "Margaret" and American submarine "Helen" arrived in Cuba

Detachment of ships of the Moscow's Northern Fleet as part of the frigate “Admiral Gorshkov” Kazan”, a naval tanker and tugboat, arrived on an unofficial visit to the port of Havana after exercises in the Caribbean Sea.

At the US Southern Command informed that the submarine USS Helena is in Guantanamo Bay as part of a planned visit, the location of the vessel and its transit were planned in advance. In the Canadian joint operational command, the arrival of the patrol ship was called a visit “in recognition of the long-standing bilateral relations between Canada and Cuba”.

The Cuban Foreign Ministry commented on the arrival of the Canadian vessel and called it expected, however, regarding the American submarine, they ” not happy”:

“Naval visits to a country are usually the result of an invitation, and this was not the case. Obviously, we do not like the presence on our territory (of a submarine) that belongs to a state that pursues an official and practical policy hostile to Cuba”, — said Minister Carlos Fernández de Cossio.

A few days earlier, during a press conference with the laurel, the head of the Cuban Foreign Ministry stated that the country “condemns the West's attempts to replace international law with an order based on rules.” Lavrov said that Moscow will support Cuba's desire to end the US blockade.
