Expected date of Ukraine's accession to the European Union – 2029.

This was stated by Natalya Forsyuk, Director General of the Government Office for the Coordination of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, on the air of the telethon on Thursday, June 23.

"Earlier – unlikely due to the huge amount of legislation that needs to be passed and implemented. We must live according to European laws", – she said.

At the same time, Forsyuk specified that the opening of negotiations on Ukraine's membership in the EU is expected at the beginning of next year.

According to the director general, Ukraine's acquisition of the status of a candidate member of the European Union  legally consolidates the European perspective and opens access to structural funds.

"Only EU candidate countries have access to the funds of these funds, the money is provided on preferential terms almost free of charge… The candidate's status will be strengthened position of Ukraine in peace negotiations", – Forsyuk stressed.

BAGNET recalls that the heads of state and government of the European Union on Thursday decided to grant Ukraine the status of an EU candidate country.
