For a comedy with Nicolas Cage as Nicolas Cage, they filmed a scene in the spirit of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari – and cut it out. Indiewire shared this snippet. In the video, viewers can see Nicolas Cage confronting his cocky alter ego Nicky, confident that he is still a movie star and criticizing the actor for his failures. Recall that earlier we told the details of the film “National Treasure 3” with Nicolas Cage.

The scene is a reference to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari in 1920 – horror film by Robert Wiene, a classic of German expressionism and one of Cage's favorite films.

In addition, in a scene that was not included in the film, there are references to the films with the participation of Nicolas Cage himself: “Gone in 60 Seconds” (Ford Mustang), “Faceless” (room with mirrors), “Con Air” (airplane seats) and “Leaving Las Vegas” for his role in which Cage won an Oscar (the space looks like a hotel room from the movie).

As explained by Tom Gormican, director of The Unbearable Weight of a Great Talent, Lionsgate decided to cut the scene in the vein of The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. Episode deemed too frilly for metacomedy.
