Tourism being one of the main economic drivers of the Haute-Côte-Nord, the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and the MRC have agreed to create a fund of $1.2 million to consolidate tourism development in the region.

The MRC of La Haute-Côte-Nord wishes to improve its attraction to nature lovers. By focusing on the river and the forest at the center of its tourist offering, it hopes to increase its notoriety among tourists and reinforce the feeling of belonging of the local population.

This agreement will make it possible to develop new services and new activities for visitors. Services already in place could also be improved.

The prefect of the MRC de la Haute-Côte-Nord, Micheline Anctil, intends to work together with businesses and organizations to further highlight water and the forest, at the heart of the identity of the region.

Yves Montigny, Kateri Champagne-Jourdain and Micheline Anctil are of the opinion that the amount invested will have concrete repercussions for the MRC.

The agreement was announced Friday morning, in Escoumins, in the presence of the deputies for Duplessis and René-Lévesque, on behalf of the Minister of Municipal Affairs, Andrée Laforest.

The attributes here will attract tourists from all over Quebec. Visitors will be able to discover the attractions of the MRC and see to what extent it represents a true paradise, mentioned the Member of Parliament for René-Lévesque, Yves Montigny, in a press release.
