The Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive M-84 tanks and M-80 BMPs from Croatia

Croatia plans to supply Ukraine with 30 M-84 main battle tanks and 30 M-80 infantry fighting vehicles (BMPs) by the end of 2018, Defense Minister Ivan Anushych said.

The transfer is part of the "ring exchange" program established by Germany, which allows European partners to help Ukraine's defense efforts while providing updated equipment for themselves.

M-84 tanks, in particular the M-84A4 Snajper variant, — these are vehicles from the period of the Yugoslav war, equipped with updated fire control systems, stabilizers and laser rangefinders, but without dynamic armor.

To strengthen its own military capabilities, Croatia plans to purchase up to 50 Leopard 2A8 tanks as replacements, using funds from the German exchange initiative.

Anusic said:

«This decision not only strengthens our national defense, but also supports our partners in Ukraine at a critical time».

In addition to M-84 tanks and M-80 BMPs, Croatia intends to supply spare parts and ammunition to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
