We learned the sad news a few days ago: The Acolyte, the latest Star Wars series, will not have a season 2. Lucasfilm and Disney preferred to cancel season 2 because of the bad feedback around the first season. Fans have just launched a petition to remedy this cancellation.
The Acolyte: No Season 2
Airing in June and July, The Acolyte is the latest live-action Star Wars series to date. Developed by Leslye Headland, the show takes place during the High Republic era, more than a century before the events of Star Wars I: The Phantom Menace. We therefore follow new characters who evolve in an environment of peace and serenity. A prosperous peace which nevertheless comes to be threatened by the rise of the dark side of the Force.
The plot focuses on two twin sisters who seem to be complete opposites. One is a former Padawan who preferred to stop her Jedi training. The other works for a Sith. Their trajectories are extremely linked, and their paths only intertwine. The Acolyte thus develops this double intrigue around Osha and Mae, and studies their conceptions of the Force, of good and evil.
A Petition for a Season 2
Unfortunately, The Acolyte did not convince viewers. The series was quickly criticized negatively because of a too slow pace, and a cruel lack of emotions and epic sequences. Faced with this bad feedback, Disney and Lucasfilm preferred to give up on producing a season 2. However, season 1 of The Acolyte ended with a tempting opening, including a final shot of the famous Yoda.
Some fans did not take this news well. Quickly, the Star Wars community decided to set up a petition for Lucasfilm to produce season 2 of The Acolyte. The petition in question is available on Change.org, and has already reached more than 43,000 signatures. The same day, another petition was launched by rival fans to ensure that The Acolyte does not have a season 2. The goal being to beat Renew The Acolyte. But this second petition barely exceeded 5,000 signatures.
A situation that highlights the division that a series like The Acolyte has caused. Even now, the show largely divides fans of the Star Wars universe. And you, which petition will you sign?
