The Audit Office reports that landfills containing waste from various materials are harmful to the environment. They poison the air, pollute the soil, and discharge into the water. The department has identified the tasks to be solved within the framework of putting in order the accumulating garbage and waste disposal. At the same time, it is noted that garbage disposal is practically impossible in 19 regions of the country. The most problematic of them are Transbaikalia, Buryatia, Magadan Oblast, Jewish Autonomy and Sakhalin. In these regions, the residual capacity of garbage at specialized landfills ended in 2019.

Many aspects of the federal project “Integrated system for solid municipal waste management” aimed at improving and streamlining the situation with solid waste should be revised. The project does not cope with the tasks set, the Accounts Chamber said.
