The municipal council room was full of citizens who came to attend the session, due to tensions after the Municipality put hundreds of citizens and the local newspaper on notice.
According to the fire services' assessment, the capacity of the room is 64 people. Obviously, those who attended the session came in greater numbers. Several people have also criticized the council's choice to hold the meeting in the small room when there is a larger one that could have accommodated everyone in the community center.
To ensure smooth running, a security agent was dispatched to the site. A team from the TACT communication agency also accompanied the elected officials.
Mayor Jean Côte and general manager Nathalie Paquet
The general director Nathalie Paquet, whose hiring is contested in a petition launched by citizens in December, was present, alongside the mayor, Jean Côté.
The independent newspaper “Autour de l’île” was put on notice by the town of Sainte-Pétronille.
The meeting lasted only about thirty minutes, the session having adjourned at 8:02 p.m.
A regulation should be adopted Monday evening to govern the conduct of municipal council meetings.
