London – Tennis player Markéta Vondroušová improved to tenth place in the world rankings after her triumph at Wimbledon. The 24-year-old Czech jumped 32 places and improved her personal best.

In Saturday's final, Vondroušová defeated Uns Džábirová from Tunisia twice 6:4 and won the first Grand Slam trophy in her career. She triumphed at the big four tournaments for the second time, four years ago she failed to fight for the title at Roland Garros.

In the world rankings, thanks to the title from the All England Club, she moved into the top ten for the first time in her career. Vondroušová's previous highest in the WTA ranking was fourteenth place four years ago.

Petra Kvitová is still the Czech number one. The 33-year-old two-time Wimbledon winner was eliminated in the round of 16 at the London Grand Slam this year and moved to eighth place in the ranking.

There are seven more Czech tennis players in the top 100: Barbora Krejčíková (12th place), Karolína Muchová (18th ), Karolína Plíšková (23rd), Marie Bouzková (29th), Kateřina Siniaková (33rd), Linda Fruhvirtová (56th) and Linda Nosková (61st).

Siniaková is world number one in doubles ahead of Krejčíková. Barbora Strýcová, who won the doubles at Wimbledon on Sunday as part of her career farewell tour, jumped to 35th place.

On the London grass, she and her Taiwanese teammate Sie Shu-wei followed up on their joint title from 2019, and the thirty-seven-year-old Strýcová thanks to the final victory, she improved in the WTA ranking by 248 places.

The women's world number one is still Iga Šwiateková from Poland, the men's ranking is ruled by 20-year-old Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, who won the second grand slam title of his career at Wimbledon.

In a five-set battle on Sunday, Alcaraz beat 36-year-old Serbian Novak Djokovic in the final and retained the top spot ahead of the winner of a record 23 Grand Slams. Alcaraz followed up his triumph from last year's US Open.
