A paid subscription will appear in the popular messenger. There will be no restrictions on available free services.
As Pavel Durov, the founder of the messenger, wrote, this is necessary in order to further increase the functionality of the application. The problem here, writes Durov, is if removing all restrictions for everyone, server and traffic costs will become unmanageable, which will end badly for everyone.
"The only way to let our most demanding fans get more is by keeping our existing features free, — it make these increased limits a paid option. That why this month we will introduce Telegram Premium — a subscription plan that allows anyone to get additional features, speed and resources. This will also allow users to support Telegram and join the club that gets new features first",— wrote by Durov.
At the founder of Telegram reassured users that all existing features remain free, and many new free features will appear. What's more, even users who don't subscribe to Telegram Premium will be able to take advantage of some of its features: for example — view very large documents, media and stickers submitted by Premium users, or premium reactions in some cases.
“While our experiments with privacy-focused advertising in one-to-many public channels” turned out to be more successful than we expected, I think Telegram should be funded primarily by users and not advertisers. Thus, our users will always remain our top priority”, — added Durov.
