Telegram agreed to cooperate with French police, – media

Telegram has begun to respond to court requests from the French police and has handed over the data that was requested from the company after the arrest of the founder and owner of the application Pavel Durov.

This was reported by the French publication Libération, citing its own sources.

Thus, the French Office for Minors received the requested information from Telegram on child pornography and pedophilia, providing data on the alleged suspects.

Because of this, French prosecutors have been advised to resume investigations related to Telegram, which had previously been suspended due to the platform's refusal to cooperate with law enforcement. The Belgian prosecutor's office notes that Telegram has become “more willing to cooperate with the judiciary.”

At the same time, it is still unclear whether such actions are an attempt to obtain concessions from the French authorities or whether Telegram is set on permanent cooperation with the security forces, writes Libération.

On the evening of August 24, the French channel TF1 reported that the 39-year-old founder and CEO of the Telegram messenger Pavel Durov had been detained at a Paris airport.

The prosecutor's office reported that Durov could face 12 charges at once. Among them are — “complicity in the storage, distribution, offering or provision of pornographic images of minors as part of an organized group”.

Investigators said that the tools Telegram offers (such as a one-time number) make Durov an accomplice to drug trafficking, crimes against children and fraud.

Telegram responded to the arrest of the messenger's founder by stating that its moderation complies with industry standards and that Durov has “nothing to hide”.

Durov was subsequently charged and placed under judicial supervision. In particular, he must post bail of 5 million euros and remain in France.
