South Korean authorities have begun an investigation into the leak of data from the Telegram channel, where technical documents related to the country's military development were offered for sale. These are documents regarding the design of the South Korean KF-21 Boramae fighter and the KUH-1 Surion multipurpose helicopter. This was reported by the Defense Security Asia portal.

Information about the leak of documents was published by The Korea Times back in February, however, for obvious reasons, the name of the Telegram channel was not disclosed.

At that time it was about the availability of documentation regarding the KUH-1 Surion helicopter, which was accompanied by images of its key components. The channel also announced the availability of information on the latest KF-21 fighter.

The alleged data leak has raised concerns about the security of joint military operations and intelligence sharing between the US and South Korea. The possible disclosure of information about the KF-21 fighter jet and the joint Freedom Shield exercises calls into question the reliability of security protocols. Indonesian engineers who allegedly tried to leak classified data about the plane. The thing is that the KF-21 — it is a joint project between South Korea and Indonesia, which at one point found itself on the verge of collapse.

Some analysts have suggested that the financial burden on the KF-21 project, exacerbated by the reduction of funding from Indonesia, may also affect US-South Korean defense relations. Although Seoul remains determined to meet the 2026 deadline, a lack of budget funds could limit the country's ability to support other major defense projects.
