My husband and I are expecting our second child. I went through all the doctors, even made a pilgrimage. I gave birth at 37.
I spent most of my pregnancy in a protection program. I was very worried because of my age. But the baby was born on time, healthy and strong. Six months later, my husband's sister also had a child. Her fourth child. I've never interfered in anyone's life, but this decision really surprised me. Their family isn't rich, they earn literally pennies.
They live in a rented two-room apartment with a six-square-meter kitchen and a walk-through room. Her husband changes jobs frequently, never staying for long, and spends most of the year on odd jobs. But he spends his time on bad habits.
A week before giving birth, Anna came to me for tea. As usual, she came empty-handed. Of course, we weren't in need, but basic rules of decency suggest that you shouldn't go to a guest's empty-handed. She immediately blurted out:
– I'm in a hurry, I have a lot to do — I was a bit surprised and didn't understand what she was on about.
It turned out that her husband had promised her that I would lend her a baby envelope – soft, comfortable and cozy from abroad. She probably asked for money “on credit” again. Only she never paid off those debts.
– By the way, did you prepare any other things for me? – I was a bit confused, but I quickly got myself together:
– You could have at least told me you needed things. I gave them to my friend recently. You have three children. The youngest is only a year and a half old.
My husband never minded spoiling his nephews, and I, who wasn't supposed to get pregnant, just liked going to baby shops and buying little things. Anna looked at me in surprise and said with some irritation:
– You gave it to a friend, a stranger, and didn't think about your loved ones. As if you didn't know what our situation was. My husband was laid off again. We're living off benefits. And I sold my stuff a long time ago.
In the evening I told my husband about her visit. But he didn't attach any importance to it: – It's nothing, she sold her things. You know it's not easy for them. Next time you can pack a few things for her. We'll buy something before she's discharged. A month had passed since Anna gave birth. During that time I had reminded her several times about the envelope. But I always got some excuse in return.
As Christmas approached, I was overcome with nostalgia and decided to visit the flea market website to look for Christmas decorations from my childhood. Imagine my surprise when I saw my envelope for sale on the website. I had no doubt that this was it. It had been custom-made according to my sketch. I followed the link and saw Anna's photo on the seller's profile.
I had to act quickly and cleverly. I created a new profile with a fake name and wrote to Anna on the website. We arranged a meeting to buy my own envelope. My husband's sister was supposed to meet me at the entrance.
When I got to her house, she was already standing on the porch with a package in her hands. When she saw me, she was very nervous. I said,
-Hi! You're waiting for someone? I was passing by and decided to take the envelope. Come on, you can give it to me.” Anna's eyes danced. She said:
– I don't have time now. I have an appointment with the pediatrician. The child is sick, and you're there with your own envelope. – My anger was boiling inside me. How impudent she is. She lies and doesn't blush. But I stopped myself and said:
– What's in the package ? Bribe for the doctor ? Okay, stop acting like a comedian. I was the one who made the appointment with you and “bought” the envelope. Don't be ashamed ? I expected something different. She angrily threw the package at my feet and shouted:
– Take your package back. You're so petty and greedy. You live, you have two cars, an apartment, a summer house and you gain weight. And we survive! – I wanted to say a lot to my husband's impudent relative, but I limited myself to a few sentences:
-We earn money for everything we have ourselves. You don't have to blame us for that. And no one gave you the right to get rid of other people's things. Don't come to me again!
I left, taking what was mine, determined not to give my husband's sister anything more. She behaved very badly.
