Tablets have grown in popularity around the world, but not without nuances

According to the IDC report, in the third quarter of 2024, tablet shipments grew significantly – by as much as 20.4%. The ranking of top brands remained almost the same, although Apple's share decreased slightly. Experts say that interest in tablets is still high, and, frankly, I believe them.

What else is known

Over the past three months, 39.6 million tablets were shipped around the world. Last year at this time, everything was more modest, so this time the results are much better. But these are not just numbers – it seems that the market is really coming to life, and manufacturers are even preparing for a sales boom for the holidays. Apple is still in first place, having sold 12.6 million tablets, although their share still decreased from 37.7% to 31.7%. It looks like the iPad Pro models were a bit of a hit, as they proved to be too expensive for many emerging markets. But overall, people continue to opt for more affordable options like the iPad Air and mini 7.

Samsung, meanwhile, is in second place and has managed to improve its position slightly, taking 17.9% of the market. In October, they also released the Galaxy Tab S10 with cool features based on artificial intelligence. But the real demand is growing thanks to their budget models, such as the Galaxy Tab A9, which are literally flying across all continents.

Amazon is also not far behind, taking third place with 11.6%. Thanks to Prime Day promotions, their tablets have become even more popular, and the updated Fire HD 8 model with new AI chips adds even more appeal to them. HUAWEI is in fourth place with 8.2% and has even increased its share by releasing new devices for both business and everyday users. Well, Lenovo, although in fifth place, also rose: their result grew by 14.7%, and this, by the way, is more than 3 million tablets sold.

Each of the big manufacturers actually grows a year per year, and while the low base effect also played a role here, it is clear that innovations such as AI functions are taking over the market. Apple, for example, is actively implementing it in iPadOS 18, and Microsoft with its Copilot+ line of hybrid tablets on Windows 11 is also taking a step forward.

An important direction now – cooperation with educational and medical institutions. And the choice among tablets nowadays is simply crazy – there is something for everyone. All these models with a cool price-quality ratio, such as Xiaomi Pad 7, Honor Pad GT Pro or Red Magic Nova, really make you want to buy a tablet right now.
