Sweden will purchase additional Patriot missiles for more than $450 million

Sweden plans to spend five billion Swedish kroner (over $450 million) on the purchase of additional missiles for Patriot air defense systems.

< p>Swedish Minister of Defense Paul Jonson said this on the air of the TV4 channel, “European Truth” reports.

According to him, Sweden, together with other countries, decided to purchase more than 1,000 Patriot missiles.

“It's good that we have a system, but it's imperative that we have plenty of ammunition,” – the minister noted.

In total, the group of countries will invest 60 billion Swedish kroner in the purchase of Patriot missiles.

“The war in Ukraine showed that a large number of Patriot missiles are needed, since Russia has ballistic missiles, fighter jets and cruise missiles. The new thing is that the production will be carried out in Europe, it is good that there are still places where these missiles are produced”, – said Jonsson.

The defense minister believes the announcement will create a stronger European defense industrial base.

The Swedish government is reported to be proposing to invest around 15 billion euros in defense over the next 5 years. In this case, by 2028, Sweden's defense budget will amount to 2.6% of GDP.

Earlier, Lieutenant General Mikael Klesson, who took over the position of Commander-in-Chief of the Swedish Armed Forces on October 1, warned that we are currently living in more dangerous than during the Cold War.
