Sweden to send navy ship to Finland to help investigate cable damage

Sweden will send the naval ship HMS Belos to assist Finland in investigating the damage to the EstLink 2 power cable in the Gulf of Finland. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Sweden Ulf Kristersson.

Since the discovery of the cable damage, we have said that Sweden is ready to support its neighbors

He promised that the Swedish Armed Forces would make every effort to clarify the details of the recent incident.

The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation has arrested the tanker Eagle S on suspicion of damaging the EstLink 2 power cable and four communication cables. Law enforcement authorities believe that the vessel dropped anchor at sea and intentionally dragged it or the anchor chain along the seabed, damaging the electrical cable between Finland and Estonia and  communication cables: three Estonia-Finland and one Finland-Germany on December 25.

The vessel has been seized as evidence in a criminal case. Technical examinations and interrogations of the crew are being conducted on board. The investigation is expected to be completed in a month.
