(Montreal) CF Montreal selected Giuseppe Barone, a 22-year-old midfielder from Michigan State University for the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday.
Claimed in the third round, at 63e rank, Barone is the only player who has been added to the Montreal organization.
Sporting director Olivier Renard had the opportunity to make another choice, at 65e rank, but he has passed his turn.
Born in Michigan, Barone played 23 games as a starter in 2019, recording three goals and 10 assists. In 2018, he had played 15 games, including 14 as a starter, obtaining a goal and an assist.
In his first year with the Spartans, he appeared in 17 games, all as a starter, and scored three goals and had four assists.
Barone, a five-foot-nine, 160-pound athlete, was one of the players who caught the team’s attention, Renard said in a statement.
“We have seen and heard good things about him. He is a midfielder with good technique and a good vision of the game. He will be invited during our next preparation to try to win a position, ”added the sports director of CF Montreal.
