Steam set a new record for the number of games released in 2024

Steam, the world's largest digital gaming platform, has reached a record high in 2024. According to SteamDB, the platform's unofficial database, the number of new games released on Steam this year has increased by 30% compared to 2023, indicating significant growth in the platform's content library and user base.

2024 is coming to an end, and statistics show that it was a fruitful year for Steam, reports 24 Kanal. Valve recently shared information about the most popular and successful games of the year, and SteamDB focused on the huge number of new releases.

As of the end of December, 18,825 games were launched on Steam, which exceeded the figure for 2023, which was 14,393. This is 30% more than in the previous year.

Most of these new games belong to categories such as:

  • Single-player games – 14.3K;
  • Casual Games – 8.7K;
  • Indie Games – 8.6K;
  • Action Games – 7.3K.

Despite this impressive volume, many of these games are described as low-quality or niche products. SteamDB reports that over 14,800 of these new releases have not reached the minimum number of users and sales required to unlock Steam's profile customization features. These projects cannot be counted towards game collections and user trophy counts.

Steam's growth is not limited to the number of new games. The platform's user base continues to grow rapidly. In early December, the number of Steam users reached an all-time high – over 39 million concurrent users online, which is a new record for the platform.

With its ever-growing audience and diverse catalog, Steam remains the central hub for the global gaming community, setting records as it wraps up another year of rapid growth and activity.
