(EDMONTON) Despite a loss in the first game of the season, Claude Julien should return with the same formation on Saturday against the Oilers.
This means that Jake Evans will be at his post, as planned. Saturday morning, the Habs announced the recall of Evans, who had been placed in the reserve team on Thursday. This was an administrative maneuver in order to save two days’ salary below the salary cap.
Evans was the least used player for the Montrealers on Wednesday, and was benched midway through the third period. He notably experienced face-off difficulties (1 in 7).
Carey Price will be in net and will try to overcome his pet peeve. Price is 3-9-1, 3.65 GPA and .861 efficiency against the Oilers since joining the NHL. This is his worst average and his worst efficiency against a rival team.
Barring any surprise, the attacking trios and defending pairs will remain the same as on Wednesday, as they were intact in Friday practice. Only the seven reservists (Victor Mete, Jake Allen and the five members of the reserve team) jumped onto the ice on Saturday morning.
For the Oilers, Mikko Koskinen will defend the net, for the simple reason that Mike Smith is injured. Meanwhile, Koskinen’s deputy is Stuart Skinner, a choice of 3e tour in 2017 who has yet to play in the NHL, and only has one full season of AHL experience.
