The United States hopes that Tehran will demonstrate its seriousness during the final stages of negotiations to resume US participation in the JCPOA

Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), a treaty that would limit Iran's nuclear program in exchange for lifting sanctions is the best way to curb Tehran's nuclear ambitions, State Department spokesman Ned Price said Tuesday.

Speaking at a State Department press briefing, Price expressed hope for that at the final stage of multilateral negotiations on the resumption of US participation in the JCPOA, the Iranians “will demonstrate a seriousness of intentions that we have not always seen until now.”

“If the Iranians had demonstrated seriousness from the first days of this process , we would be able to achieve a mutual return to compliance with the terms of the JCPOA in a relatively short time,” Price added.

He noted that the JCPOA will remains “the most effective means of deterring … the Iranian nuclear program”, emphasizing that this statement is not a “speculative experiment”, but a fact proven in practice.

“JCPOA, in our opinion, and this is the point , which we have repeatedly stressed in our briefings with members of Congress, remains the most effective means of deterring Iran's nuclear program on a permanent basis,” Price concluded.
